gordon rileyParticipantA small, select group, me and Hugh braved the early start but we had no problem getting parked up. Had lots of varied weather from horizontal rain and mist to bright sunshine. route was completed finding the 3 crash sites we went for. A good day despite the weather
gordon rileyParticipantI’ve just booked on this for all 8 nights
gordon rileyParticipantThis looks like a great deal from The Foundry
I will be there on Tuesday. I m aware some people nee to climb after work and others prefer during the day I will therefore be there from 3 ish and stay into the evening. maybe a bit of a social afterwards if folks want it.
this next 2 weeks might be a good opportunity to ty
try The Foundry if you haven’t been there for a whilegordon rileyParticipant3 of us met up for this walk one of whom met us below Mam Tor due to it being impossible to find anywhere to park in Edale.
An atmospheric time was had going over Rushup Edge and Brown Knoll in mist, light rain and strong westerly winds The mist and low cloud didn’t lift until we were on Kinder. An uneventful descent was made via Grindslow Knoll to return to Edale
thanks for the company it was good to chat although the meet leader was struggling a bit from being ill and tired after the Scottish trip.
gordon rileyParticipantEight of us enjoyed a really good day with clear dry weather and light winds. The plan was to look at two crash sites, a B24 liberator bomber from WW2 and two sabre Jet fighters that collided in mid air in 1954. All of the above was achieved including tracing the wreckage trail from the top of Kinder to the lower ground by the snake path passing several areas of wreckage including wings, landing wheels, tailplanc and a jet engine. The 2 minutes silence was appropriately observed at a point between Snake Top and Mill Hill.
Thanks everyone for your company and making it such a good day. There are photos on both walkers and climbers wattsap groups
gordon rileyParticipantHi Richard
Thanks for that, much appreciated.
I think It would be easier for you to lead a separate route on kinder of your own choice. I ll offer the crash sites another time as there is quite a lot of information to send overThanks again
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantHi All
This Sunday s walk is now CANCELLED. The reason is that the clod i have been getting over is now shown to be COVID. i m OK and recovering but it doesn’t make any sense to be mixing at the moment
gordon rileyParticipantfive of us enjoyed what all agreed had been a brilliant day. weather continuing to improve from overcast to bright , warm sunshine with dry rock. lots of fun with small crawling challenges and scrambling on Hen Cloud and both lower and upper tiers of The Roaches,. The “torpedo tube” was specially enjoyed and lots of photos taken. views from the Skyline area were spectacular. lots of birdsong very much in evidence and thanks Richard P for identifying them.
The walk along the valley from Roach End produced a bit of mudnesss which needed a bit of care. We visited the crash sites of a Lancaster and later a German Junkers JU88. both were large bombers but little wreckage remains.
Return back to the cars was via the coll between Hen Cloud and The Roaches.
A couple of us took up Bill s kind invite for a coffee
gordon rileyParticipant5 of us including new members Kim and Mark enjoyed a steady and relaxed day . walking up the dale revealed considerable evidence of recent flooding but the path still easily passable. We had a good look at Mandale mine. By group decision we opted to do the longer 11 mile version of this walk. views from the plateau were as good as ever and the pleasant nature of Lathkill dale and Bradford dale.
A good day was finished with a brew in the local pubgordon rileyParticipantHi Paul
Im still interested in the lundy trip and possibly Dartmoor/S devon as well

Im up for this as wellGordon
gordon rileyParticipantA small select group of 5 of us met at doctors gate with brilliant weather. clear , bright sunny and a bit windy coffee break was taken just west of the trig point on Higher Shelf stones giving both shelter from very strong winds over the top and also great views over towards Manchester and Glossop. we could see almost to Wales The crash site of the RB29 on higher shelf stones created a lot of interest and some time was spent in interpretation of the wreckage given what was known about the crash and the flight. further crash sites of a Lancaster and Dakota on and just below James Thorn were visited and the Dakota crash site provided a welcome lunch spot in the lee of James thorn. with more thought provoking discussion of the wreckage in front of us. a wander over to Herne stones and return down the Pennine way path brought us to the path junction and return to the cars.
A very positive day with great weather and good company. All seemed to have had a good day. I enjoyed it too, thanks for your companygordon rileyParticipantDoes anyone who is going on the walk tomorrow (Thursday) have a clubroom key?
I have the club’s Bosigran guide book which I would like to return to the library but i don’t have a key
