A small select group of 5 of us met at doctors gate with brilliant weather. clear , bright sunny and a bit windy coffee break was taken just west of the trig point on Higher Shelf stones giving both shelter from very strong winds over the top and also great views over towards Manchester and Glossop. we could see almost to Wales The crash site of the RB29 on higher shelf stones created a lot of interest and some time was spent in interpretation of the wreckage given what was known about the crash and the flight. further crash sites of a Lancaster and Dakota on and just below James Thorn were visited and the Dakota crash site provided a welcome lunch spot in the lee of James thorn. with more thought provoking discussion of the wreckage in front of us. a wander over to Herne stones and return down the Pennine way path brought us to the path junction and return to the cars.
A very positive day with great weather and good company. All seemed to have had a good day. I enjoyed it too, thanks for your company

    Change of Plan
It looks as though the A57 Snake Road is closed for some weeks. We will therefore not be able to get anywhere near the start point I had originally planned.

Rather than just cancel It is possible to reach where we want to be by a different although longer route
Meet at The car park off the B6105 On the Southern bank of Torside Reservoir to the SW of Crowden. GR 068983
    At 9 00AM
Route will be Torside Clough, Wain stones, Hern Stones, Higher Shelf stones, James Thorn and return back to Torside by similar route. We will still be able to take in the crash site of the Superfortress, and possibly 2 others close by Defiantly worth seeing if you haven’t seen it before
Distance 17 Km approx. 12 miles

    Any issues please phone 07811986415

    Hi Folks

Yes it seems the road works which were scheduled to end on 2nd Feb when i did the recce have run on.
thanks to people who have contacted me today and for JB s kind suggestion which seemed a good idea. I have however opted for meeting at the large lay by just before Cutthroat Bridge GR 215 874. This does add about 3km to the walk which makes it a bit long but I think under the circumstances ie a very late change of venue it is a better bet in that we can all get in and it is known to many of us.

    Apologies for any inconvenience

    Hi Vanda

As we discussed on your recent Sunday walk I would be willing to lead another walk based on aircraft crash sites. On the last one a few people hadn’t been up to the B29 crash site on Bleaklow. I d be happy to lead a walk up that way and perhaps take in a couple more sites close to it.

    Hi Paul
Following our conversation yesterday at Bamford. i would be wiling to lead a walk taking in some of the less obvious aircraft wrecks.

i suggest one of the following dates Sunday 31 October, Sunday Sun 7 November or Sunday 14 November

Please let me know what works best
