A small select group, all 2 of us enjoyed a brilliant day over Torside and onto bleaklow. We took in 3 crash sites as planned
A really good day

gordon rileyParticipantChange of Plan
It looks as though the A57 Snake Road is closed for some weeks. We will therefore not be able to get anywhere near the start point I had originally planned.Rather than just cancel It is possible to reach where we want to be by a different although longer route
Meet at The car park off the B6105 On the Southern bank of Torside Reservoir to the SW of Crowden. GR 068983
At 9 00AM
Route will be Torside Clough, Wain stones, Hern Stones, Higher Shelf stones, James Thorn and return back to Torside by similar route. We will still be able to take in the crash site of the Superfortress, and possibly 2 others close by Defiantly worth seeing if you haven’t seen it before
Distance 17 Km approx. 12 milesAny issues please phone 07811986415

gordon rileyParticipantSorry folks Grid ref for Doctors Gate is 096 928
gordon rileyParticipantHi Folks
Yes it seems the road works which were scheduled to end on 2nd Feb when i did the recce have run on.
thanks to people who have contacted me today and for JB s kind suggestion which seemed a good idea. I have however opted for meeting at the large lay by just before Cutthroat Bridge GR 215 874. This does add about 3km to the walk which makes it a bit long but I think under the circumstances ie a very late change of venue it is a better bet in that we can all get in and it is known to many of us.Apologies for any inconvenience
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantThe Orienteering sounds interesting. I would be happy to help with recce
Bowland forest is an area I haven’t been to so why not?
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantThat was a really nice tribute to Mary. i also have very good memories of mar and pat
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantHi Vanda
As we discussed on your recent Sunday walk I would be willing to lead another walk based on aircraft crash sites. On the last one a few people hadn’t been up to the B29 crash site on Bleaklow. I d be happy to lead a walk up that way and perhaps take in a couple more sites close to it.
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantHi Gemma,
I m sorry but due to a change in plans I now wont be able to make the New Members meet. Fran and I decied to get a few days away and unfortunately the dates clash
hoe it goes OK
Gordongordon rileyParticipantHi Paul
Following our conversation yesterday at Bamford. i would be wiling to lead a walk taking in some of the less obvious aircraft wrecks.i suggest one of the following dates Sunday 31 October, Sunday Sun 7 November or Sunday 14 November
Please let me know what works best
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantI plan to be there as well
Gordongordon rileyParticipantHi Vanda & Paul
is there any space left in the hut for the Coniston trip?
Gordongordon rileyParticipantHi Paul
I could do either of those dates Please give me a call to discuss
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantHi Ellen
I m up for this. I helped take a group of kids there earlier this year and was very impressed. It seems from your description there is more to it than we saw. I would be interested in both morning and afternoon trip but happy to fit in with others.
When we went they did give out helmets and lights.
Gordon
gordon rileyParticipantHi All
Just a few thoughts regarding evening meets.
attendances have been disappointing and on a few occasions I have turned up to find no one there when the conditions were perfectly climbable. Whether the meet is on a Tuesday or Wednesday or any other day for that matter seems academic if no one is going to turn up.
Regarding the points Vanda & Bill have made
!. I do not think the choice of venues is too predictable. There are a finite number of possible venues suitable for an evening meet due to length of walk in etc but there is lots of brilliant rock in the Peak so that repeating routes is not a problem for me in any way.
2.The lack of a regular climbing partner is very much a problem but has n,t stopped me turning up and being prepared to climb with whoever turns up. If attendances were better on evening meets this would no longer be an issue.
3.After a few meets when I was the only person there I have begun to put something on the messageboard asking if anyone was going. I sometimes actually got a reply. Maybe we could make more use of the messageboard for this and perhaps with people putting a mobile number for contact.
4 I think this might help even if merely a designated person as a contact point?????
5 I think an earlier start is an excellent idea. meeting the needs of both retired and working members.
6. I do think this idea may have merit it does seen a shame to be on an indoor wall when it is climbable outside but this will clearly depend on individual preferences and needs to be decided upon on an individual and day to day basis.
Hope these thoughts are helpful. What do other people think?
