February 26, 2024 at 1:01 pm in reply to: Early Warning! Northumberland Meet Spring Bank Holiday 24th – 27th May #22015Christine KellParticipantHi Paul
Just to let you know I’ve booked for the Northumberland meetChristine KellParticipantI’m booked Thursday to Monday!
Christine KellParticipantReport of Thursday walk March 10th
13 members enjoyed a breezy walk of 7.3 miles from Longshaw car park via Winyards Nick, Over Owler Tor, Lawrence Field and back, a few unfamiliar sections of path included. After lunch overlooking Burbage Brook there was a stiff pull up to White Edge Lodge before some opted for drinks in the cafe. Good sightings of 3 red deer stags and a red kite added to the fun.
Christine KellParticipantSooo sorry I’m away for New Year’s Day. (Phew!)
Enjoy the dip everyone and Happy New Year!Christine KellParticipantBoth ideas seem good to me.
Happy to scout outChristine KellParticipantHi Kial
Sorry but in the LakesChristine KellParticipant15 of us battled the strong wind and windchill walking along to White Edge, where we were quickly rewarded with good views of red deer, including a very impressive stag with his females. A few adolescent males looking wistfully in his direction.
Using medieval and eighteenth century marker posts we skirted two bronze age settlements, admired the Autumn colours of grass and bracken and the extensive views across to Gardoms and Chatsworth. Heard stories of daring kayak trips in the now drained reservoirs and didn’t go wild swimming – next time!
A total of 6 miles for those who didn’t climb across the white gate.
Thanks everyone – great fun.Attachments:
Christine KellParticipantHi Bill and Elen
Thanks for offering your home as a club venue. I’d love to come over and use some of your camper van space.
ChrisChristine KellParticipantHi Marian and everyone
Just to let you know I can’t make Thursday’s walk because I am sorting out how my dad is going to manage in isolation over the next few weeks. Keeping well and hope to be back next week. Hope everyone is feeling OK
Chris K
Christine KellParticipantI’m interested in meeting up in Provence for Easter 2020
Keep me in the loop
Chris KChristine KellParticipantAlso booked for Friday/Sat/Sunday Hoping for some sun
Christine KellParticipantFurther update re food for Saturday night. I think I was rather vague in the previous post. If people would like to bring and share for a communal curry meal on Saturday night then I would suggest each person brings enough vegetables, rice, bread and accompaniments for themselves but we can pool all of this and cook it together. So we can pool any meat I would suggest all carnivores bring chicken breasts which we can cook more quickly cut into strips. We can do a separate dish for vegetarians.
I can bring spices.
Weather forecast looks like feeling cold on the hills with windchill making it feel like -5. It is the Lakes -it might rain!
PS You will need sleeping bags -pillows and blankets are provided
Christine KellParticipantI’m pleased to say the meet is now full with Cathy and John stepping up.
Christine KellParticipantHappy New Year!
Latest update on Langdale meet next weekend from me as Elen will be away.
We have 1 male and 1 female place in the separate dormitories due to a minor injury -let me know ASAP if anyone wants the places.
I suggest we all bring something towards a curry on Saturday night. If meat eaters would like to bring chicken we can pool resources.
Weather wise, fortunately the wind is going to drop according to the latest forecasts!
Raw Head is a very comfortable hut with great kitchen and cozy living area with an open fire – all fuel included in the £12 per night guest fee (please bring cash and I’ll pay by one cheque). GR 304067 and the hut is named on the map. Follow the B5343 from Skelwith Bridge to Chapel Stile. Approx 3km further on look for a wooden wall above a dry stone wall on the right – Raw Head is the next on the right, opposite the Wayfarers Robertson Lamb hut. I’ll be there from 330pm to let you in. Car parking behind and in front of the Barn -the building on the right facing downhill. If you are early there are 5 local pubs -2 in Elterwater then the ODG, New DG and Stickle Barn further along the valley. All do food. See you there! -
