14 members gathered on the car park by the Sportsman pub at Lodgemoor.
The weather was warm and, initially, dry.The dress code was shirt sleeves-although some with gaiters and 2 with shorts.
No one felt confident that the weather would stay dry!Sure enough cagoules were soon pulled on and even a pair of over trousers, as rain struck while we emerged from the the initial wood.
Coffee was taken by the edge of the second Redmires reservoir in showery conditions.Pressing on we reached the top reservoir and were soon leaving Redmires on the Headstone path.Reaching the conduit path we stopped for lunch by the adjacent wall with threatening dark clouds above the distant Derwent Edge.
Lunch over, but without the threatened rain, one member cut short the walk by following the conduit path back to Redmires. The 13 remaining then pressed on downhill to take the path to Reddicar Clough.
Reaching a wooden gate lying on its side across ferns we had to hold it upright to allow it to operate and enable us to pass through. The heather we had passed initially had now changed to ferns mostly about waist height or higher.
Onwards and upwards we followed the woodland trail above Wyming Brook drive, with an unsuccessful attempt to locate the cave allegedly used by an escapee from the nearby Lodgemoor Prisoner of War Camp.Probably just as well,as the majority of us didn’t really relish the prospect of a squeeze into the cave.
A bit of fun followed, shortly after, however, with the crossing of the stepping stones acrossr Wyming Brook!
A pleasant woodland stroll then followed above Fox Hagg and onto the grounds of the Three Merry Lads where 6 members felt unable to resist the temptation of an end of walk drink before completing the few hundred yards to reach the cars.
Thanks to all who came for your company and for helping keep the weather gods at bay!
