I was saddened to hear of the death of Steve France. When I joined the club nearly thirty years ago Steve was a very active member, serving on the committee and being president. He was involved with The 21st Anniversary Book, numerous fund raising activities, such as T-shirts including the famous multi coloured rugby shirts, ceilidhs and associated raffles and auctions as well creating news letters.

He was also an excellent climber who was keen to encourage and help new members. As with a lot of us, family responsibilities and work commitments began to supersede climbing and we began to see less and less of him.

He came to the club’s 45th Anniversary party held at the club room in 2012 commenting that the club room hadn’t altered since his time. Sadly this was the last time I saw him .

A great character, I have good memories of climbing and occasionally caving with him, as will a lot of people, he will be missed.
