The overnight rain had thankfully stopped as we met near the old railway for a walk around Bamford. The route took us down to Bamford Mill and the lovely millpond, then across the newly maintained stepping stones. We headed up through the village then contoured gently up to Bamford Edge for panoramic views. We walked the length of the Edge and then descended through the magical gnarled oak woodland down to the main road.
Crossing the dam we carried on upwards on the Win Hill side. At the end of the gentle path we turned steeply upwards on a section of Parkin Clough – muddy and not met with enthusiasm by everyone.
However it was worth the slog as afterwards we contoured along the lower slopes of Win Hill, enjoying views across the valley and gently descending to Thornhill and the carpark.
6.5 miles, 11 walkers in two groups
