Despite the forecast, 12 members arrived at the car park and 11 set off on the walk, Dick opting for a cycling day. The rain arrived on time, just before the start of the walk, but luckily was only showers through the day. The walk from Fairholmes up to Lockerbrook warmed us up, and the path south provided nice views, especially from the coffee-stop. A gentle descent to the A57 was followed by an ascent up the east side of the valley, where half the group decided to take a short cut up to the top, arriving before the lead party. Our lunch stop again had good views until an incoming shower persuaded us to get moving again. A gentle descent took us back down to the tarmac along to the dam. Strolling through the childrens’ wood Ali found a neat bug hotel, and then a very lively shrew. A little further on we met a toad and another shrew, then the wooden creature that we decided was a water vole. We arrived back at the cars just as the heaviest shower of the day came in. Thanks to everyone for coming along.
    Distance 7.5 miles by GPS.
