17 people set out from Linden Ave in an eclectic assortment of waterproofs for the 471st Thursday walk. After a very muddy trail across the fields to Holymoorside we were joined by a further 2 members. Having seen the state of the River Hipper a speedy decision was taken to shorten the walk to avoid stepping stones upstream. We wandered through beautiful autumnal woods past Woodside Farm and Cathole Coppice to our lunch stop. Progressing on to descend Wellspring lane we discovered that a lot of it was underwater, unsurprisingly the normal manic mountain bikers were missing. Having re-negotiated the mud we returned to find 5 more members lured by cake. The cakes were exceptional, thanks to all the bakers. Fortunately there were a few crumbs left when the last 2 members arrived, taking us to 26 in all.
We were particularly pleased to have the opportunity to catch up with 2 old members down from Scotland and Steve and Charlotte back from Leeds and ready to party. Rosy was sadly missed although we really appreciated her fabulous scones which she nobly sent despite being ill.
A reasonable (in the conditions) 5.6 miles in excellent company. Thank you all, it was lovely, Lin.
