Six of us set out from High Bradfield in glorious sunny weather on an ancient mile post hunt. We descended to Agden Reservoir, enjoyed a brief play on a rope swing then ascended steeply towards the top of the ridge. We then found the ancient water course of Bar Dyke, thought to possibly date back to Roman times, and, shortly after, the first of the 18th century stone mile posts or guide stoops. After a lunch stop and a great view into the Ewden valley, we followed more tracks, lanes and woods to mile post number two. By this time I had given up explaining the history as the audience were not very attentive! But, on reflection, it would take some performance to inject enthusiasm into any speech about them! Circulating curlews and panoramic views were indeed far more interesting! We finished with a traverse across moorland and the path along the top of Agden Roche,. A brief look at a “waterfall” as marked on the map is not worth a mention (so why am I?. Don’t know.)
Anyway overall a great round, lots of banter, new paths for many. Seven miles in all.
    Ali
