An overcast but dry morning saw a party of 11 gather at the Hope Valley Garden Centre car park. We made our way through Shatton and up to Elmore Hill Farm. Brough Lane brought us to our coffee stop from where we had good views towards Ladybower and Castleton. Snow still lingers on Rushup Edge. After skirting Abney Moor we took lunch on Offerton Edge and we were treated to a flypast by a lone Hercules aircraft as it followed the valley below.
After a short descent we arrived at Offerton Hall where we watched two rare-breed pigs wallowing in the mud. One was identified as a Gloucestershire Old Spot but there were no offers to name the smaller brown one. Answers on a postcard please.
A short walk along the riverside brought us to our starting point after 6.8 pleasant and relatively mud free miles.

NB. This is a convenient starting point for walks and cycle rides. Although notices are still displayed giving approval for car parking by walkers, the owner requests that permission be obtained first, and peak periods ie Bank Holidays are avoided unless you are using the Garden Centre.
