10 of us set off across Big Moor, meeting up with a hardy wild swimmer at Barbrook along the way, so now we were 11.
One of the standing stones, a 1776 way marker signposting Sheifl to the north and Tidswl to the west provoked interest especially as one of the members pointed out that the sign east looked to be directing us to Tibet!
An early coffee stop was enjoyed in glorious sunshine, sitting on rocks near the ancient village by Swine Sty, then onwards to the trig point on White Edge where a member of the group introduced his new knee in ceremonial fashion.
The safari continued above the bracken, spotting roving stags and deer feeding, alert to us watching them and every now and then the group stopped to listen to the primordial sound of that rutting season roar.

After all this of course it was time for lunch, where the group rested on the Hurkling stone ( boulder) contemplating the origins of why our lunch rock was so named….( to hurdle: to draw up the limbs and crouch or squat).

Onwards across the moor 🦌 🦌 🦌, past the old reservoir to a stone circle, ( Barbrook 2) and then back to the gates, with Barbrook 1, an ancient circle over to our right.

Thank you for good company and a gift of a day weather wise for mid October. Hazel
