Sixteen intrepid explorers left Eyam carpark wrapped up to face whatever weather was thrown at us.
Large quantities of sticky mud were enjoyed on the path over to Foolow, after an early coffee stop, sheltered from the wind in Linen Dale.
Skilfully negotiating many squeeze styles, and then into Grindlow, we yomped down the hill into Silly Dale (due to the geological ‘sills’ strata) where everyone behaved remarkably sensibly, despite flurries of sleet and hail, interspersed with bursts of sunshine and blue sky.
Lunch stop back in Foolow on our figure of eight loop, we basked in sunshine initially then put on extra layers against snow flurries, with Chris K commenting this was good preparation for cross country skiing in Norway next month! A few walkers nipped into the little village church of St Hughs.
Tideswell Lane enabled everyone to wash their boots in the bridleway lake before exploring around the top of Furness Dale, appraising the climbing routes in Horseshoe quarry from above.
With further careful footing on limestone paths and steps around the nature reserve (with many walkers keen to return to enjoy wild flowers and a picnic in the summer months)everyone did well to slide their way back into Eyam.
Thank you everyone for cheery company and uncomplaining resilience.
