19 of us plus 2 dogs set off from the Bulls head pub in Holymoorside. The sunshine and the expectation
of tea and “stickys” had obviously been a temptation not to be missed!
The first section of the walk was up over open countryside before heading through pleasant woodland towards and crossing the Chatsworth Road. After passing new born lambs near Frith Hall we stopped for coffee at the top end of Lady Wood which was carpeted in a splendid array of woodland flowers basking in the sunshine. From here we proceeded north to Hemming Green and down to Linacre Reservoirs. Lunch was taken beside the central reservoir with bench tables for all.
After utilising the public loos adjacent the lowest reservoir, we passed through Old Brampton graveyard, crossed the Ashgate/Brampton road then descended south to the Happy Hens farm shop where some of our number took advantage of fresh eggs etc. Also here a splendid turkey gave us a plumage show giving our prolific photo competition winner yet another opportunity!
After crossing the Chatsworth Road once more we skirted round the east of Holymoorside and over the river Hipper before arriving back at our start. 7.7 miles by Andy’s GPS. 15 of us then enjoyed Bakewell tart, biscuits and hot cross buns back at Pear Tree Avenue. Thanks to all who came. Glad you enjoyed the unknown countryside plus the tea and eats. Pete
