A few of us have been looking at Sicily as a trip for the last two weeks of October 2020.
We have just bought the climbing guide for San Vito de Capo, and chatted to friends who have recently come back. A wide variety of types of bolted limestone, some multi pitch. There is a long 4km escarpment studded with routes of all grades, mainly south west facing, as well as lots of other crags. Plenty for all grades. It is well bolted, but not holiday grades like Kalymnos.
There are fantastic sandy beaches, world class diving, bike hire, and excellent walking. Riserva Natural dello Zingaro is about 8 miles away and makes for stunning walking and bird watching.
Also, castles and temples galore. So something for rest days from climbing, or for non climbers.
Mount Etna, the other side of the island is over 3000m, and spectacular.
The nearest airports are Palermo and Trapani.
2 options for accommodation. There is a campsite below the escarpment with pitches, chalets, bar and pizzeria. Or places to stay in San Vito itself, 10 minutes from campsite.
Friends tell us campsite is nice, chalets are cramped, kitchens basic, not that cheap, but very pleasant location. Accommodation in San Vito is better value for money, bigger, real kitchens, but a short drive to most of the climbing . Supermarkets and restaurants are in San Vito.
Eating out is not that cheap.
So…let us know if you are interested and we can coordinate accommodation, car hire, etc. We plan to book flights etc in March April time.
    Cheers Linda and David.
