A slightly delayed start from Foolow, as we waited for the expected late arrivals of Linda and Mary, but then an easy walk to Eyam, before climbing up into the thickening mist of Eyam Edge and Bretton Moor. Mary and Andrew peeled off just before the lunch stop in the drizzle of Bretton Clough [something about ‘things to do’ and ‘hunger/no food left’] and then a limping Sean, managing to make only slow progress to Stoke Ford, also decided to bail out, and set off alone down the road to Hathersage, but apparently very shortly successfully hitching a ride home. So a reduced group of 9 continued to Abney, before heading south via Bretton Clough again [almost a figure of 8 walk] to Bretton and a very easy stroll, after all the glutinous and widespread mud we’d been encountering, down the quiet road back to Foolow.
8 and 1/2 miles according to Andy’s GPS [so you can all have that extra mince pie over the festive season] with no ‘deviations’ from the planned route – this must be a first!!
Thank you all for your cheery company.
