I hope that everyone who came to Awesome Walls on Friday night or to Yarncliffe today enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the second half – Awesome Walls on Friday 6 May from 6pm and Birchen Edge on Sunday 8 May from 10.30am.
Twenty people, members and prospective members, turned out to make it an awesome night on Friday. It was only the threat of turning out the lights that persuaded the last of us to go at 10pm. Plenty of routes were done with partners regularly swapping during the evening. This, together with some fairly protracted coffee stops, made for a very sociable time.
Today we met at the parking below Stanage and very quickly decided we needed a more sheltered and hopefully warmer venue given a temperature of 5 degrees C. Yarncliffe was agreed upon as somewhere sheltered close by. 15 people made it to the crag with some climbing all day and doing 6-7 routes and others retreating early due to the cold and occasional light showers. Many routes were climbed in the Ant’s Area (the first slab) where the ants were noticably absent and several routes on the Cardinal’s Slab area (the Cardinal was also absent). Again it was an opportunity for ‘mix and match’ between climbing partners.
We have had two prospective members expressing thanks for the events, saying they learnt a lot and look forward to meeting us again. As you will see from Mary’s message Tina has also applied today for membership.
Thank you all for coming and see you again very soon!
