Laddow meet – 1st and 2nd July
The original plan was to bivi in the Laddow cave. This is small, sloping and damp, and an experience for those with a sense of history. As an alternative we can camp at the Crowden camp site. This is a smart camping club site with all mod cons. Book by phoning the warden 01457-866057, and tell him you are part of the Castle club group. It is very difficult for even him to work out how much it costs, but his computer got my price down to £12.50 for the night of 1st. Staying here will allow climbing on Laddow, Lads leap [a clump of v.diffs], Tintwhistle Knarr [knarly vs], Crowden Great Quarry [death defying], Shining Clough [wonderful], and other minor crag on the N side of Bleaklow. Scrambling routes include Oaken clough on Laddow, and the marvellous Shining clough itself. Great walking north to Marsden and back, Chew, and south over Bleaklow. For the morning of 1st – meet at the car park – 073,993.
