Ten (ish) gathered at Dick and Lin’s and set off on a cool but sunny morning. Without local knowledge navigating out of Chesterfield would have been tricky. Local parks and snickets took us to Holymoorside and then a slow and gradual climb up the valley to views over Beeley Moor and beyond. Some undulating downhill along quiet lanes to cross the A619 and then the A621. Passing Shillito Woods , through Millthorpe and into Barlow, we were welcomed into a busy cafe for tea and coffee. A further 30 mins of riding meant we were on the finish straight. Alas one puncture before Holmebrook Valley Park and a snapped chain after it tested some of our cycle maintenance skills. The repair teams surpassed themselves and we were swiftly back on the road for another five minutes before house, cars and cake reception. A huge thank you to our hosts for leading the cycle and also tolerating so many hungry cyclists in their lovely home. Total ascent and distance in this (ish) report about 1600 feet and 21 miles.
