We will once again be lunching at the Grouse. Details of the Grouse’s menu will hopefully be posted soon. If you intend to lunch I will need to know your food order by the 1st December. Suggest you WhatsApp me via the Group Walking WhatsApp. In addition to the menu please note the Traditional Turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, is priced at £15 plus Christmas pudding with rum sauce at £6.
Full details of the route and timings etc. will follow in due course.

    Hi All,
The Grouse menu is now up on the Message Board under my 1st November message. It is a little blurred but if you click on it and enlarge it you should be able to read the content. As mentioned previously there is also the option of a full Christmas dinner at £15 and Christmas Pudding at £6.
Many thanks to Andy for posting the menu.
    Await your orders!
    Pete

    15/12 Walk Report
What a day! It had it all – winter conditions underfoot, a clear blue sky and stunning views. Plus a little excursion for some!
I’m not going to describe the route in great detail, to those who weren’t walking, just to note the following. 24 of us set out from the Foxhouse including two who had started at the Grouse. We caught up with 2 early starters at the Totley Moor Trig Point plus another large group who were apparently heading off to Owler Bar. Our route then took us down to Barbrook Bridge where we had coffee and Ginger Frog (brandy & ginger wine mix) kindly supplied by Dave C.
Here we discovered a missing member so two search teams of two proceeded back to the Trig Point, where our back-marker had indicated all present as nobody behind. Phone calls from our search teams revealed no trace of our missing member who did eventually turn up at the Grouse ahead of the teams.
Apparently so keen to get to the pub he had presumed we were going in the same direction as the “Owler Bar” group and only realised he was “Billy no mates” at least a half mile in the wrong direction! Having retraced his steps he met up with another Castle member who had set off late from the Foxhouse. They both took a different path to Barbrook Bridge hence missing the search teams.
Oh the joys of Party management!!
Having said goodbye to two members not lunching 32 people sat down for lunch including 7 non Totley route walkers.
Fabulous food was served and general merriment prevailed. Afterwards individual groups returned to the Foxhouse via the Longshaw Estate.
Distance for most 6miles – 506 feet of ascent.
A few thankyou’s:- Thanks to Dick for bringing Charles, thanks to Lin for the Tom Patey song reading, thanks to the two rescue teams, and many thanks to Dave C for the excellent “Ginger Frog” made with a very mature brandy!
Thanks also to Linda Mc. for organising the weather all the way from Spain!
Lastly thanks to each and everyone who turned out. All in all a fantastic day and superb company.
(Note for your diaries – next year’s is on the 21st December)
