Here’s a message from the BMC Peak Area Hillwalking reps Peter Judd and Cath Lee

You may already have seen some of the early publicity for the BMC’s exciting “Mend our Mountains” campaign (more details here: https://www.thebmc.co.uk/will-you-help-to-mend-our-mountains). It proposes to use crowd funding to raise significant amounts of money for a number of mountain path projects spread across the country. We have a local interest in that one of the target paths is here, in the Peak District, namely the heavily used and very eroded path leading down from Ringing Roger, above Edale, on Kinder Scout. We gather that there will be a minimum target to reach before any particular project will actually go ahead, so we hope you’ll agree with us that it seems particularly important that fund raising for our part of the campaign gets off to a good start. If helping to restore some of our most damaged mountain paths appeals to you and you think you might like to contribute once the crowd funding site opens to receive donations on the morning of Monday 14th March, then may we heartily encourage you to do so as soon after the formal launch as possible, so that the campaign gets off to a really good start and builds some early momentum.

In addition, if you happen to have links with a business with an interest in the outdoors (an outdoor activities company, a gear shop, a B&B or hotel or similar) and think they might be able to offer something that might be used as a ‘reward’ that could be offered as an incentive as part of the crowd funding campaign (a nice way to make a contribution) then do please pass this link to them for more information https://www.thebmc.co.uk/can-you-donate-a-prize-to-our-major-new-crowdfunding-campaign

My fellow Peak Area BMC Hill Walking volunteer and I are thinking we might take a very short ‘Sunset’ walk from Edale up to Ringing Roger on the evening of campaign launch day (Monday 14th), just to mark the occasion. If you think you might like to join us, keep an eye on the BMC Peak Area Facebook page for more details, nearer the time.

Peter Judd, BMC Peak Area Hill Walking Volunteer.
