Foolow Green saw 22 walkers assemble around the Cross to set off across the fields and a multitude of stiles up onto the edge of Longstone moor.
A coffee break ( first lunch for some) sitting on springy tussocks was enjoyed, amid lots of banter and camaraderie .
Striding down hill towards Wardlow we were lucky enough to see a couple of small murmurations of starlings disturbed from their local feeding ground.
Due to wet ground conditions the original route down Cressbrookdale was adapted and we descended into Wardlow Mires along the roadside path, some of our number fascinated by the ‘Three Stags Head’ pub still going, but not today.
After lunch nestled between thistles by a drystone wall below Stanley House, we made tracks for home. A brief stop at the edge of Silly Dale, enabled certain members of the CMC an additional opportunity to display their talents at ‘looking very silly.’ (Photographic evidence available).
Back in Foolow, everyone relaxed with tea and cake, thanks to a generous and delicious selection provided by the crowd.
Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate this 11 th Anniversary and especially to Linda M for initiating such a popular and sociable weekly happening all those years ago 🤗.
