14 of us set out from Calver in dull slightly cold conditions-but the initial climb up to the ridge soon warmed us up.
Starting along the ridge above Bramley Wood we passed the decaying remains of a large bird with striking red colours. Some of us wondered if it was a buzzard or ( in view of the red colours) a red kite, but others thought that it was a pheasant (surely the right conclusion).
After that macabre start the remainder of the ridge through Bramley & Bank Woods was a delight.Lovely colours and glorious blue bells carpeting the whole area.
Leaving Bank Wood we continued in improving weather prompting much removal of layers.
Onwards and upwards to Pilsley for lunch where the usual rather old and rotten picnic table was found to have gone-so it was a case of finding an area to sit in free of nettles or worse.
The steady return through Bubnell and the riverside passed without incident.Sadly the” Derwent Water Arms”being closed we were deprived of the opportunity for a celebratory end of walk drink.
Altogether an excellent day. Thanks to all who came.
