Eleven of us gathered at the Ford Wheel Dam car park, enjoying the birdsong around us as we prepared to set off. Heading down the valley we were soon amongst the bluebells of Cadman Wood before field paths took us into Ladybank Wood where we paused for coffee. This was an idyllic spot with thousands more bluebells stretching in a blue haze through the trees. Crossing the Moss Brook we turned back up the valley and passed the remains of the 19thC ‘Seldom Seen’ engine house – a reminder of the colliery which operated there at that time. A steady climb took us up through more bluebells in High Bramley Wood, across a couple of fields with wide views ahead and on to Mill Ponds where we enjoyed lunch in another picturesque setting. Folds Farm, dating from 1687, was passed and then Troway Hall, even older, before we began the descent to the valley floor, recrossed the brook and climbed briefly before passing through Ryall’s Wood (more bluebells!) and so back to Ford. Plenty of sunshine, birdsong and most of all the countless bluebells, meant we saw the Moss Valley at its absolute best – it was a pleasure to share this ‘Off Peak’ gem with you all!
    Cheers
