Eight of us met on a bright crispy cold day at Bamford recreation ground. The path to Win Hill was a steady climb with the mud frozen. Coffee at the summit at 12.03, sunbathing against the summit rocks, sheltered from the cruel north wind. Great views of the snow covered White Peak and Mam Tor. After considering options, an off-piste direct route towards Windy Knoll through snowy heather worked best for those with gaiters. Down, down north, to the icy depths of Hope Woodlands. Taking the path East to contour round to the end of Ladybower reservoir where lunch was taken at the late hour of 1.30pm. Muted grumblings. Unconventional checking of the map. After a brief stop the walk accelerated to the old railway track, via an unscheduled diversion half-way up Parkin Clough. A stretch of the legs made it to the car park at the scheduled 2.55pm. 7.3 miles. A glorious day on top, contrasting with the frozen paths which made progress quick in the shade. Thanks for good company and good hearted toleration of minor deviations from normal practice. Geoff.
