Wasdale Meet 4/5 July 2015
A reminder that this club meet will be based at Wasdale
Head NY 187 088. If you are planning to come but are not
able to join me for my 70th birthday the day before, 3 July,
please let me know and I will make sure that some birthday
cake is saved for you!
Although Rosy and I and some others will be staying at the
Wasdale Head Inn, this is basically a camping meet at the
campsite next to the Inn. The website is http://www.s213669645.websitehome.co.uk/10.html
They do not accept bookings, but the website says space is
not normally a problem other than on Bank Holiday weekends.
I have not camped there but have heard reports that it is OK.
Groups of more than 4 are not allowed so it is best for
everyone to make their own arrangements separately.
Often considered the birthplace of British rock climbing
with the ascent of Napes Needle by Haskett-Smith in 1886,
the Wasdale Head area is superb for both climbing and
fell-walking. There are numerous routes of all grades on
Scafell, Great Gable, Pillar etc., including many classic
ones.
