With a large contingent away sunning themselves in Kalymnos, 10 hardy CMC members arrived at the Low Bradfield car park for this Thursday walk. Although rain was forecast, we only got a light shower for a short time, and the weather brightened through the day.
We set off up the direct route to High Bradfield, then on up past the covered reservoir and radio mast on Onesmoor to a coffee stop under the old trees before the Lumb Lane crossroads. A right turn at the latter took us to the path into Lumb Bush wood, a nice autumnal spot. Coming out of the wood we took the old track to Coldwell, then down the lane to the return path across the stream and up to Gate Farm, where a bench and extra wall seating provided a lunch stop with a view.
Bridlepath, footpath and a bit of lane took us to Low Ash Farm where we joined the Sheffield Country Walk westwards to Cliffe House Farm and a downward track to pick up the footpath back to Low Bradfield.
Three members went straight home, while the rest of use enjoyed tea, coffee and excellent cakes at the School Room teashop.
I’d measured about 6.5 miles on the map with a ruler, and after a recce on Tuesday had modified a couple of sections to avoid mud and road, so wasn’t surprised when Chris K’s phone app said 7.1 miles. Thanks to everyone who came along for an enjoyable day.
