Nine left Eyam, in blistering heat and descended past the Boundary Stone to Stoney Middleton. Local cut throughs led us to the foot of Coombs Dale. Here we climbed up to Longstone Edge for coffee and fine views. At we cut back down to the main path of the dale then ate lunch at a babbling brook.
The return followed Black Harry Lane (named after a local highwayman) and an arc around the Darlton Quarries. The Delf gave a much needed respite from the sun. We emerged at the top of the reserve. Three of us made a slight detour to explore Cuckold Church then headed straight for ice cream at the Courtyard Cafe. A much needed dip at Froggatt Bridge ended the afternoon. 7.5 miles – lovely group. Thank you for your company.
