13 of us met at Calver on a dull and slightly cool morning.
The initial chil wore off as we climbed the steep muddy bank to the start of the ridge through Bramley Wood. Continuing through Bank Wood we soon reached the clearing with lovely views towards Longstone Edge where the leader decided that this would be a good spot for the morning tea break.Unfortunately those sitting at ground level had their view blocked by the firns!
Continuing, we left Bank Wood and followed the minor road to Hassop.A path then led to a small gritstone slab bridge and on to the A619.Crossing the road here we continued onwards, past a tempting bush of slows, and then upwards to the picnic area outside Pilsley where we stopped for lunch.Unfortunately settling on one of the benches Rosie brushed against a wasp which stung her through her trousers. The considered opinion of the group was that the appropriate treatment was vinegar,but,no-one had any!
Lunch over we then descended to and recrossed the A619.Ascending the hillside beyond we all gave a rampant bull amidst the cows a wide birth.Clearly his mind was on other matters and he gave us no trouble.
Safely past the bull we continued to Bubnell and the riverside walk to Calver.Unfortunately, the meet leader ,engrossed in conversation ,missed the turn off to Calver village resulting in a half mile or so detourto complete the walk.
An enjoyable walk in a pleasant area.
Thanks to those who came and for your company.
