10 set off from Dale Road and walked along the east side of Dale Dyke reservoir then up to join the Sheffield Round Walk. Just before descending to cross the stream we took an early coffee break with a fine view across the valley. After Brogging we crossed the road and most of us took the stile into the woods, made interesting by the loss of one step. After a bit of jungle bashing on the concessionary path we met the 2 members who had elected to take the easier route, though that included climbing a 5 bar gate. The forest path was easier from there, and we followed it to the end at Thornseat Road. Walking up toward the moor we found some tasty bilberries, which kept us going to the lunch stop at the edge of Thornseat quarry, with clear views eastwards.
On around the quarry edge we surmounted the ridge and dropped to exit the walled area, with fine views of the moor across to Derwent Edge. A long disused track took us back down to Mortimer Road, with Agden and High Bradfield in view. After crossing the road a bridleway took us back down to Dale Road and the cars. A pleasant 6 mile circuit, with varying scenery – thanks to all who came along.
