On a rather overcast day 15 members set out from Hartington : first over fields then rising up to a ridge, through a wood to arrive at the road to Sheen. A short shower had everyone putting on their waterproofs but shedding them quickly once the rain stopped. A coffee break was taken on the top of Sheen Hill which allowed good views over the surrounding countryside.
Dropping down into the valley, following a stream we arrived at Pilsbury where we had lunch and explored the 11th century castle remains. The next part of the route followed the ridge opposite Sheen Hill. Before we got back to Hartington several members picked mushrooms for supper and one member had a brief encounter with an electric fence which was next to a stile and without a warning sign. Several elderly residents of the village seemed keen to chat to us before we arrived at the teashop! A good outing with much laughter and discussion. Many thanks to all who participated.
