Ten plus two prospective members gathered at Curbar Gap car park. We followed a descending path below Baslow Edge, which delivered extensive views over to Longstone , Stoney and Chatsworth. Meeting the Ladywell track, we then ascended back up towards the ridge line for a brief drink and snack stop. A steep descent down through beautifully mossed woods led us to cross an old stone bridge and then the main Owler Bar to Baslow road. A gentle ascent through more woodland, edged onto Gardoms Edge at the sculpted Moorside Rocks, where we found a suitable lunch stop. At the Rpbin Hood Pub we took the short and steep ascent on to Birchens Edge. We stopped briefly for an obligatory photo at Nelson’s Monument (erected 1802) and, a bit further on, for a tick of the trig point. It was a pleasure to show Bron and Nick the three rocks of Victory, Soverin and Defiance. Fun and games followed during the descent. I found possibly the boggiest path available, where we negotiated various obstacles. At the crossroads we took the broad track leading to Wellington Monument and then further on the Eagle Stone. From there it was a short stretch back to the start. 7.7 miles according to my step counter app. Thanks to everyone who came. Thankfully, the rain stayed away right until the end of the walk. Ali.
