Continuing our exploration of paths north-west of Sheffield, this one starts at More Hall reservoir and loops south.
Drive north up the A6102 from Middlewood to the junction with the minor road to Bolsterstone (GR SK 297957, about half a mile after Wharncliffe Side, and opposite a building site for new houses – there should be a sign pointing left to Bolsterstone, but it seems to be missing at the moment). Turn left at the junction, immediately going through a gateway on the left with a water company sign by it. Drive for 0.7 miles to the More Hall dam and park there on the roadside (GR SK 287958).
The walk crosses the dam then turns right along the reservoir side to the inlet end. A short jink will take us on along the south side of Broomhead reservoir to a path going south up the hillside. This gives some cardiovascular exercise as we go up through Fox Hill Wood then Poggs Wood to emerge on the minor road of Walker Edge. A breezy stroll east along the road takes us to a path up to old quarries and then a track down to Spout House and a minor road. Crossing this we walk down to Benteholme then across fields to enter the woods of Glen Howe, a Sheffield council park. Finally the old track of Storth Lane will take us to Brightholmlee and a path back down to the reservoir and the cars.
A tad over 7 miles by my GPS today, and about 1200 feet of ascent. Mud there will be.
Hope to see you there.
