9 members set out on an unexpectedly lovely morning.Having completed the preliminary approach across Haddon Grove and Haddon Grove Farm we reached the edge of Lathkill dale.
Here the leader led the group west along the rim of the Dale on a public footpath not shown on the map with an “off piste” descent down a rake-not a public footpath, but obviously well used-providing a pleasant route into the Dale.
Walking back east along the Dale floor the party reached the foot of the “official ” descent into the Dale where the usual tea stop was taken in the welcome sunshine.
Cales Dale was then followed to its junction with the Limestone Way and so onwards past Caling Low and Low Moor Plantation to Back Lane.
After joining the path to Meadow Place Grange lunch was taken in full sunshine by a field wall.
Meadow Grange then beckoned with its usual mudbath, which was negotiated with care along the edge of the cowshed and the adjacent fence.Definitely a high “mudness” score-in the region of 7 out of 10!
Following this excitement normal terrain followed with the return to Lathkill Dale at its start below Over Haddon.
Easy walking then led up the Dale to the pleasant exit path up to Mill Farm and so back to the start via Haddon Grove.
Thanks to all of you who came for your company on a most enjoyable walk.
