13 + Tig the dog met at the car park on Carr Lane and followed the Touchstone Trail for a short while before turning up through the woods towards Thornhill. Our route then took us past the old Thornhill Town Well, which supplied the village until piped water arrived in 1949 (photo below and on WhatsApp walking group). Many puns about it being “well” worth a visit, etc.

Back onto a more familiar ascent of Win Hill, with early coffee break on a bank with views back towards Bamford and across towards Hope. Final climb to summit of Win Hill and trig point.

Continued along the ridge (until just before Wooler Knowle on map), then descended into the forest. Late (oops) lunch sitting on a wall or sinking into the long grass, enjoying sunshine.

Another slip / sliding muddy section through the forest before deciding to drop down to take the wider forest path along Ladybower Reservoir and back along Touchstone Trail to the start. Some had departed before the rest decided to stop for tea and cake at the Anglers Rest in Bamford.

Much better than predicted weather and great company on this muddy walk. 7.5ish miles.
