Eleven walkers (plus Otto and Tiggy) set off at 11am, despite local traffic chaos trying to disrupt our plans.
We started with a yomp through the long grass and then up to the Chatsworth hunting tower, looking down over a very green view, noting that the ER was no longer in evidence.
Walking through tunnels of rhododendrons and pink foxgloves, we trekked across to the waterfall that was a mere dribble and sat having our coffee/tea break enjoying being at the top looking down!
Winding down the escarpment past the crumbling viaduct to the house, we crossed the bridge and moseyed along the river bank watching sand martins wheeling above the weirs.
With the promise of a lunch stop with an amazing view, the group powered on up to Carlton Houses and through New Piece Wood to the benches and sunny bank overlooking a classic Capability Brown landscape.
Downhill into Edensor past the glass sculpture and church and back along the path to Baslow, everyone to a member, followed our president’s lead, Geoff recommending the coffee latte ice cream cone ( sampled pre-walk) and post walk, the raspberry ripple…..
8 miles, delightful company, fabulous views, delicious ice creams.
Thank you all.
