Next Thursday’s walk should be a little different!
I aim to visit some of the locations referred to in the legend of the Dragon of Wantley. We will almost certainly see the dragon itself and hope to find its den. and well.
The walk is about 6 miles (10 km) on either side of the River Don with about 1200′ of ascent.

Usual time of 11am, starting from Station Road, Deepcar. NGR SK 291 981 and postcode S36 2SQ. Park near Lowood Working Mens’ Club. The same place as if climbing at Wharncliffe.
If you are coming from Sheffield on the A6102 Manchester Road turn right at Deepcar onto the A6102 Wortley Road and right again onto Station Road. If coming down the A6102 Wortley Road from the A616 Stocksbridge Bypass turn left into Station Road after passing under the railway line.

The legend of the Dragon of Wantley is a parody based on a 16th century courtroom battle between the 6th Earl of Shrewsbury (the dragon) and a local lawyer Sir Thomas More (the knight). I will explain more on the walk. Swots can look the legend up on Wikopedia!

Sounds good, but probably need to check if road closure from Hillsborough to Wharncliffe still has long diversion, which we discovered when going to Remembrance Day Walk from Langsett.
    Cheers, Paul.
