A fabulous sunny day attracted 14 members to set out on this walk.
After the initial approach to Ledmill Bridge we climbed to Mount Pleasant and then over the ridge to Broadhay. The usual tea break was enjoyed in the sun alongside Hog Hall, before we pushed on to the minor Road above. At this point one member of the group took the opportunity to peel off (for medical reasons) and return to Hathersage, while the 13 remaining continued through Highlow Wood and beyond to reach Stoke Ford (muddy in places, with one notorious stretch of extreme “mudness”).
Once at Stoke Ford we were confronted by some road cones and an unwelcome “Footpath Closed” notice barring access to the small bridge over Highlow Brook- due to it’s having a missing plank and another insecurely fastened plank.Rather than take a lengthy detour up the valley to Abney, or trying a tricky crossing of the brook ( not to mention barbed wire fences) we ignored the warning and successfully crossed the bridge-continuing through Mill Wood to reach the top of the field beyond where lunch was enjoyed in sunshine with views up Bretton Clough.
After lunch we walked past Oak Farm and crossed the moor on Smelting Hill beyond,A pleasant descent into the Hope Valley followed with Hathersage visible in the distance below Stanage Edge.
Once back in Hathersage the majority of us stopped at the Poolside cafe for a final drink ,cake and chat before heading off home.
A lovely day out with a real feel of spring in the air.
    Thanks to all who came.
    Mike D
