CMC Thursday walk 2 October 2014 – Report
13 members set out from Bradwell in good weather. Leaving
the village up Top Hole Road, we ascended through a rather
overgrown Hartle Dale, continuing up Green Dale to join
Batham Gate, the line of the old Roman Road. A path across
Bradwell Moor, past old mineshafts, took us to the top of
the moor. Here we enjoyed our coffee break while enjoying
views down towards the Peak Forest area. A descent to the
Cop on the Limestone Way was followed by a path across
fields to Oxlow Rake. The route took us through a farmyard
before traversing round to Conies Dale and the umpteenth
stile. We followed the path uphill to some trees where we
had our picnic. Grassy banks, walls, and fallen tree
branches provided a choice of perches, and again we enjoyed
great views. After lunch we continued through the old mining
area to reach the bridleway which runs north of Eldon Hill.
A stroll along this, crossing the Limestone Way and then a
path through fields and more stiles brought us back to
Bradwell where tea and home-made cakes (thanks, Rosy!) were
consumed. 8.2 miles, 1360 ft of ascent. Andy.
