It was a day of mixed weather. Rain: a little; hail: a little;
sunshine: a fair bit; wind: a lot. Nine members met at the
Barber Booth parking and headed up Chapel Gate. Always a bit
of a pull but it must have been tough carrying a coffin over
to Chapel. Realising it would be windy at the top, we paused
for our coffee break before we got there. Our route continued
to the path junction at the west end of Rushup Edge where
we turned east and had the strong west wind at our backs,
speeding us along and up to Lord’s Seat. We paused here and
were surprised to be joined by another member who had
arrived late at the start and then caught us up. The ten of
us continued along the ridge, enjoying the good views.
A descent to Mam Nick was followed by the steps up to Mam Tor.
It was very windy here and some lighter members of the party
needed care to avoid being blown off the hill. We passed
quickly on, heading down towards Hollins Cross and soon found
a sheltered hollow on the east side of the ridge where nine
of us paused for lunch (the tenth was in a hurry and continued
on down). After Hollins Cross we dropped down to Greenlands
and followed the path west across numerous muddy fields back
to Barber Booth. Distance 6.6 miles.
