11 of us set out heading for the bridge and stepping stones by Bamford Mill. The crossing was straightforward and the party soon reached the other side. Two weeks ago there had been a raging torrent that would have been madness to try crossing!
Safely across we continued through Bamford and headed to the water works.A coffee brake was taken in a field beside Hurst Clough Lane.
Continuing onwards and upwards we passed Upper House Farm and the woods above.
Reaching the moorland below Bamford Edge we stopped for lunch on a grassy vantage point with lovely views over to Stanage and the Hope valley – all lit up by the afternoon sun.
A steady climb then took us on to Bamford Edge with its classic views of Ladybower, the viaduct and the moorland beyond. The descent to the Ladybower dam wall then took us through the familiar atmosheric moss covered wood, which ,as always, proved difficult to photograph.
Finally we descended by the side of the damwall to the Yorkshire Bridge with its pretty riverside scenes.
All that was then left was to follow the disused railway back to the start. On the railway line, some of us were greeted by JB who was out for a rehabilitive stroll after his recent knee surgery. He was doing so well we had difficulty keeping up with him!
A great day out with excellent company and views.Even the sun joined us briefly at lunchtime.
