Fourteen of us met at Mytham Bridge in bright sunshine for a walk on to Abney Moor. The first section was a gentle stroll by the river before the ascent to Offerton Hall. We enjoyed a coffee stop just before the Hall with panoramic views over the Hope Valley and beyond. Things got a bit more strenuous, but we soon cleared the bracken and crossed Siney Sitch to reach our high point. A comfortable lunch spot gave us the chance to lounge in the sun and appreciate the gentle breeze – a taste of proper summer weather.
Suitably refreshed, we skirted below the Ethel on the end of the moor ( Burton Bole) and followed the track round to the top of Brough Lane. Andy left us here for the direct route back to Bradwell. The rough, steep descent proved very tough for one of the leaders, but with some encouragement he made it to the turn-off point for Shatton and a well-earned break. Tea and cakes at the garden centre beckoned most of the group with the leaders taking a more leaisurely stroll back to the cars.
Thank you all for your company on a fine walk enhanced by lovely weather. Hope you got to the café in time.
