Meet at the car park at Dovestones Reservoir [SE 013 036] in the Chew Valley at 10 am.
Be aware of the parking warden who likes to issue fines for the slightest infraction of rules. Make sure you park between the white lines, etc!! [Yes, I do bear a grudge!!]
We shall be following directions in Tom’s book, ‘Scrambles in the Dark Peak’ up Chew Brook to the Wilderness Gullies. There are 4 to choose from, plan A will be Wilderness Gully East, but alternatives can be chosen. Depending on time we may do more than one of these fine selections and probably either an ascent or descent of Charnel Clough [delightful name] on the opposite side of the valley. There may even be some walking involved but hard to say how much before the conditions of the day are assessed [and the speed of ascent!].
There may be an element of dampness along the way, so please be prepared. With a bit of luck the Yanks will send us some snow, but I’m not hopeful. They’re usually late in helping out.
Hope to see you there.
