Twelve of us, plus one dog, set off from the large layby on Flagg Lane, along the track [Wheal Lane] above Deep Dale towards Taddington in warm summer weather, which remained with us all day. Some were wearing shorts/cropped trousers, so the first planned new path just before Taddington, got the thumbs down due to unusually high and numerous stinging nettles. Two, who’d wanted a shorter walk, peeled off here, and the rest of us continued along another new path running along the north side of Taddington [Hades Lane !] before a slightly late coffee stop. Then on a familiar path, past Sough Top to join Green Lane leading towards Flagg, where this meet leader had to be reminded that she’d forgotten about stopping for lunch [how many lost brownie points is that?] So after a rather late lunch, and successfully navigating the fields filled with cows, there was more walking along quiet roads, and a surprise reunion with the two who’d peeled off earlier. The final section, which had proved rather challenging to navigate on a previous walk, now has a new stile and signpost [and a helpful local farmer] to point us vaguely in the right direction back to our cars. Thank you all for your excellent company on this 7 mile walk.
