With no-one else evident in Millthorpe parking layby as 11am approached, Chris Kell and I were discussing how far we actually wanted to walk today, if the weather turned as unpleasant as predicted. But then a beaming Mike Griffiths appeared round the corner, and since we only had a bit of drizzle later in the walk, the full walk was completed as planned, just over 6 miles. We headed north through muddy fields to Cartledge, before turning southeast down the easy track, and then across more muddy fields and minor roads via Rumbling Street towards Moorhall. Somehow the usual coffee stop had been forgotten about [too much talking?] and we had a late, standing-up lunch under the shelter of some trees [too much mud to sit down]
The final sunken lane provided interest {was it a path or a stream bed?] with some wading required before the actual ford [now a raging torrent!] with its handy bridge, on the outskirts of Millthorpe.
Thank you Chris and Mike for your cheerful company, on one of the muddiest walks for a while.
