Hi All,
Re the Membership Renewal Form 2023. I’m raising what I see as an issue of conflict between statements 11 and 12.“12.Privacy Statement
Here at Castle MC we take the privacy of our members data seriously and will only use your personal information for club administration purposes and for communicating with you about your membership. …… We will never share or sell your data without your prior permission.”
This is a clear statement. Hence, under ’11 Personal Statement’, members’ permission to share data is sought:
“I also agree to my personal details …… being passed to third parties to effect membership discounts and the BMC to secure affiliate membership/3rd Party insurance” Yes/No
By indicating Yes to Statement 11 a member is allowing the club to pass personal data to third parties, seemingly without any requirement for the club to seek further specific permissions from individual members.
However, a member may not want their personal details passed on to third parties. But in choosing not to agree to Statement 11 they are also not agreeing to have their personal details passed to the BMC, which is not in their interests, and is a club affiliation requirement.
Statement 11 seeks agreement to /acknowledgement of five items:
a] personal responsibility for the risks of outdoor pursuits
b] club rules
c] personal details on the club address list
d] personal details passed to third parties
e] personal details passed to the BMC
Clearly, (a) (b) (c) and (e) are essential for the effective operation of the club, and not agreeing to them should preclude membership. However, I do not see (d) as an essential requirement for membership. Does the club agree, ‘personal details passed to third parties’ should be partitioned on the membership form as a separate agree/not agree option? I accept, this would place an additional administrative burden on whoever has responsibility for sifting the YES and NO members, so, perhaps, a preferable option would be to stick to ‘the CMC will never share or sell your data, except to the BMC to secure affiliate membership/3rd Party insurance’, and leave it at that.
Any thoughts for or against?
