Looking at booking up https://www.coetmormill.co.uk/ for a long weekend in January. Need to gauge interest first as they have a minimum booking quota.
Thought it would be a good warm up to my Scotland trip in Feb. Doubt it will be winter conditions but might drop lucky. Even so we will be able to get a couple of good mountain days with a few scrambles thrown in.
Could you let me know if your interested, I’d like to get it booked up in the next week while they still have availability. It will be £10/night/person provided we hit the minimum number of 8 people.Cheers

November 11, 2021 at 7:15 pm #17254Kial WrightKeymasterI have booked https://www.coetmormill.co.uk/ for a long weekend in January, 3 nights arriving on Thursday January 13th and departing 16th January.
The mill can sleep up to 34 people (but we probably want to keep it 20 max. in the current circumstances) spread between 3 alpine style bunks and has a large fully equipped kitchen, showers and kit drying room.
Fingers crossed for snow & ice (doubtful, but we can hope) for some winter mountaineering but failing that, it’s still a great location to get a couple of good mountain days with a few scrambles thrown in.
It costs £10/night/person and I require a £10 deposit / person.
Let me know if you want to come along and I’ll add you to the list and send you bank details to transfer the deposit.People attending already are:
Kial
Leon & Josie
Matt & Rosie
Chris Lunn
Geoff Nichols
John HutchCheers

So far this is still going ahead. Lots of space left in the hut for anyone else wanting to come along – £30 for 3 nights.
Drop me an email if your interested at kial.wright@googlemail.comCheers
KialJanuary 7, 2022 at 1:03 pm #17527Kial WrightKeymasterHi All,
Not long now till this meet, I still have room if anyone else wants to join?
To people that are already coming I have attached the huts user guide, please have a read through it.
One thing to note is the bunks, it says the mattresses are very thin and hard and its better to supplement with your own sleeping mat. Also don’t forget your sleeping bags 🙂
I was thinking we could do a communal meal on Saturday evening, everyone bring some ingredients to make a curry – what’s your thoughts?Cheers

For those lucky people going to Wales this weekend, myself and Josie are going to take ingredients to make onion bhaji
and chapati . we are also going to bring along the spices and sundries to make a sesame chicken Indian dish.
If anyone would like to join us in a communal meal then you will need to bring Chicken (200g per head) or Equivalent Quorn and an Onion.
This is not a hot dish and is usually served with chapati.
Any other starters or puddings welcome.
Leon & JosieJanuary 10, 2022 at 8:19 pm #17543Kial WrightKeymasterFor anyone planning to get to Wales early Thursday then myself, Matt and Chris are doing the Moel Siabod Ridge on our way to the hut. Your more than welcome to join us. We aim to get to the parking at Pont Cyfyng (SH 734 572) for approx 11am. The route take around 4 to 5 hours so we should just get it finished before dark.
Let me know if your wanting to come so we don’t leave without youCheers
KialJanuary 11, 2022 at 3:00 pm #17550Kial WrightKeymasterFollowing on from Leon’s message about the communal meal, I’ll be making a sweet potato and pea curry as a side dish which can also serve as part of a main course for the veggies attending.
Any more additions are more than welcome. Thanks
KialJanuary 12, 2022 at 9:57 am #17551John HutchParticipantI’m afraid that the (non-Covid) bug I’ve been fighting recently is not clearing fast enough for me to get there tomorrow – I don’t think anyone would want to share a bunkroom with me at the moment! Hope it’s a brilliant weekend – and if I get well enough to turn up before the end I will.
January 19, 2022 at 7:28 pm #17577Kial WrightKeymasterNorth Wales Meet Report:
6 of us meet at Capel Curig Thursday morning and set off past the impressive gorge of Afon Llugwy and headed up to the disused quarry on route to Moel Siabod. Although the weather was clear and sunny it wasn’t hot enough to tempt any of us to take a dip in the water pool crater of the quarry!
After a quick coffee stop, we pressed on to reach the southeast ridge of Daear Ddu and the start of the scramble up warm rock to the summit of Moel Siabod where we enjoyed the views across to Snowdon and Tryfan, both looking impressive with the clear blue-sky backdrop.
After a quick bite to eat we headed back down the northeast ridge to pick up the outbound path back at the disused quarry.
We then all headed over to Coetmor Mill to unload our gear and claim a bunk. The rest of the evening was then spent pondering over the next days activities.
Friday saw us splint into 3 groups. One group headed out to Foel-fras taking in Foel-ganol, Pen Bryn-do and Llwytmor on this circular walk. Llwtmor providing stunning vistas over Anglesey.
The other two groups opted to go climbing, one group heading over to Tremadog and the other opting for Grooved Arete on Tryfan which turned out to be elusive to find with climbing not starting until after lunch. The climb was topped out just as the sun was falling below the surrounding mountains leaving us to don headtorches to find the route back down the mountain, arriving back at the digs close to 9pm!
Friday evening also saw the arrival of the remaining 5 members, growing our number to 11.
Saturday we split into two groups with 6 people heading out for a walk straight from the hut taking in Moel Faben, Ilefn, Gyrn, Drosgl & Gyrn Wigau.
The remaining 5 headed over to Snowdon. Leaving the masses behind on the Pyg Track from Pen-y-pass we headed up to Crib Goch, scrambling along the ridge to Garnedd Ugain and then to the summit of Snowdon. After a spot of lunch we headed back down the Watkin Path to Bwlch Ciliau then continuing along the ridge line to Y Lliwedd and descending down to Llyn Llydaw reservoir where Matt couldn’t resist a quick swim with many cheers from passes-byes. Then a quick walk along the Miners Track to complete the circular route around the Snowdon horseshoe.
Saturday evening proved to be very sociable with us all contributing to cooking up a communal curry and a few drinks.
Sunday the weather finally let us down, turning wet and windy. We all went our separate ways, some heading straight home while a couple of brave souls headed up to Glyder Fawr via Bwlch Tryfan & Glyder Fach and returning via Devils Kitchen.
A great weekend was had by all, photos on Facebook page here:https://www.facebook.com/castlemountaineering/posts/155162610184070
