13 members met at Ashford in the Water under grey skies. We set off along the River Wye, apparently one of only two rivers in England to support breeding rainbow trout after their introduction some years ago.
The route took us through Shacklow woods until we encountered several groups of D of E hopefuls gingerly descending the very steep and slippery path to Sheldon. Elevenses were taken at the entrance to Deepdale before continuing up the dale to join the minor road. We then crossed the fields to Magpie mine and a lateish lunch. There are usually larks to be seen near the mine and this time was no exception. The path leads down to skirt Sheldon village before a steep descent back to Ashford. 6.4 miles.
Many thanks to everyone who turned out to share one of my favourite Peak District walks.
