If you were looking for fantastic views and bright sunlight you needed to be somewhere other than Peak Forest on Thursday! Nevertheless, 9 members and 1 hound set off in good spirits despite the gloomy conditions and a less than inspiring forecast. The first part of the walk passed in a blur of fields, stiles and worsening visibility. In other words the meet leader, busy talking, made a slight deviation to the route but with the aid of Locus maps (thank you John) the group arrived at the track where 5 paths meet. A brief coffee stop with no view and damp, sheepy conditions was soon over and we descended to Oxlow House. Crossing 2 roads in slightly improved conditions we climbed up to the start of Rushup edge where the clag once again descended. Lord’s Seat, an Ethel (hills in the Peak District over 400m) was noted, see the photo on WhatsApp.
All the excellent views of Edale and Kinder were lost and the gloom was such that the front runners and backstops of the party couldn’t see each other. A handy wall provided some shelter from the wind for a lunch break after which we descended to the road. The walk was completed following the Pennine bridleway to Perry Dale where the road allowed for easy walking and talking. 7.6 miles and 300 metres of ascent.
Thanks to all who came and contributed to a cheery outing in spite of the weather!
