Address: Raw Head, Great Langdale, Ambleside, Cumbria, LA22 9JS
The B5343 runs up Great Langdale from Skelwith Bridge. Follow this to Chapel Stile from where it is just over 3km to Raw Head. As you near the hut look out for a wooden wall above the dry stone wall on your right. Raw Head is the next property on the right immediately opposite the Robertson Lamb hut which belongs to the Wayfarers. There is parking to the front and back of the Barn. Please car share if possible as car parking space is limited. The Cottage shares parking with the Fell and Rock club ‘barn’, which has a capacity of 33. F&R members may be going to the F&R AGM in Kendal on the Saturday.
The following are provided:
• Beds with mattresses
• Blankets & 1 pillow per bed.
• Fridge, freezer, oven and hob, microwave, toaster, kettle. Cooking facilities are limited so we may want to organise a communal meal on the Saturday.
• Tea towels, hand towels & pillow cases,
• Toilet rolls, washing up liquid, hand wash liquid and cleaning products,
• Fuel & kindling for fire,
You will need to bring with you:
• Sleeping bags or sheets,
• Additional pillows if required,
• Lidded box to keep your food secure – there may be mice,
• Firelighters if required to light the fire,
Please DO NOT bring candles or tea lights – these are prohibited due to fire hazard:September 18, 2024 at 4:57 pm #23008Richard PegramParticipantI spent last weekend cleaning Rawhead Cottage on a FRCC maintenance meet. It’s really nice, and clean. I’d like to go – I’ve paid the fees.

October 30, 2024 at 7:23 pm #23281Sue MillerParticipantHi,
Does anybody know if there is still definitely a place on this meet?
If so, I would like to come,
cheers Sue M
October 30, 2024 at 8:11 pm #23282John BarnardParticipantSue – so far as I know there is still plenty of space. If there’s a problem, I can stay in the main hut and take up to 6 guests (there are only a handful of people booked in there at present).
Richard (and anyone else wanting to car share) – I am planning to drive up leaving Sheffield probably around lunchtime tomorrow (Thursday). I may decide to return on Sunday evening, or possibly stay Sunday night and return on Monday evening. For various reasons I can’t be very specific about my travel plans, but if someone is flexible I’d be happy to offer a lift (I’m in Stannington). Easiest way to contact me is via the WhatsApp grpip for this meet (part of the CMC WhatsApp Community) or direct message via WhatsApp.
I have a whole load of Wainwrights to be ticked, though opnly a few are in Great Langdale.
JBOctober 30, 2024 at 8:42 pm #23283Sue MillerParticipantThanks John.
Good to know space in Barn as I could book in as a kindred club member, but sounds like there will be room for all of us in the cottage anyway.
It is a great forecast, so you should get a few Wainwrights climbed!
See you + all tomorrow. Sue

The meet was based in the Fell and Rock club cottage in Langdale. This is a 17th century farmhouse with lots of character, open fire, ceilings too low for John Barnard, and one cooker. Of the 12 people on the meet, 4 attended the Fell and Rock AGM on the Saturday afternoon, some after visiting Kendal wall in the morning. Booking the Thursday night meant groups could walk on the Friday as well as over the weekend. This all worked well. Beautiful autumn colours. Misty hills. The cottage is cheap to book and we only had to pay for the places we used. It would be very good for a summer meet because of all the climbing in Langdale.
